Book Parlor Shinabi Shoka

ブックパーラー 砂辺書架
44 Sunabe, Chatan

Book Parlor Shinabi Shoka is a secondhand bookshop in a converted school bus in Sunabe, Chatan. Our hometown of Chatan is best known as a "town of new entertainment," but it has in fact been a crossroads of people and culture ever since the Jomon period. We hope the Nuchinuwa Jomon Festival will be a chance for visitors to feel that long history of human activity and exchange. During the festival, Shinabi Shoka is planning workshops where you can get close to nature through shells and plants, as well as a barter market. Details will be posted on Shinabi Shoka's Instagram.

こころの森(農水苑 虹)
520-1 Kuwae, Chatan

Kokoro no Mori ("Forest of the Heart") lies in the middle of Chatan town, yet is wrapped in the green of the trees. Through honeybee classes, markets and a community children's cafeteria, it has grown into a place that connects food, nature, the community and handcraft. Chatan is a land where people lived for a long time during the Jomon period. They are said to have gathered food from nature, touched the earth, built fires, made tools with their own hands, and lived within ties between people. Touching nature, moving your own hands, feeling the link between eating and life, gathering around a fire to talk with one another: the way of life of the Jomon people, who lived mainly by hunting and gathering, may hold hints for rediscovering what we today are beginning to forget. At Kokoro no Mori, we are planning "Nuchinuwa Jomon Pottery Making," where participants face earth and fire to make vessels, along with a beekeeping class, pizza baked in a wood-fired oven, a film screening, a talk event and a dyeing workshop. We hope to create a place where you can stand in the forest and feel nature, food and life (nuchi). Details will be shared on the Instagram of Nousuien Niji.
